The creation of this website was a collaboration between the Service Planning Area 3 (SPA 3) Health Planning Group and the Healthy Eating, Active Communities (HEAC) Initiative in Baldwin Park.
The Service Planning Area 3 (SPA 3) Health Planning Group (HPG) is a coalition of community health advocates and local health organizations serving the low-income and uninsured population of the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. This group came together to establish a planning body that could be responsive to changes in the health care system affecting SPA 3 residents. Members include hospitals, community health centers and clinics, other community-based organizations and service providers, private practice providers, faith communities, the Los Angeles County Departments of Health Services (LAC/DHS) and Mental Health, Pasadena Public Health Department, SPA 3 Children's Planning Council, school district health programs and resident advocates.
The vision of the SPA 3 Health Planning Group is a healthy community, with optimal quality of life and wellbeing for all, with a mission is to improve the health and well being of the SPA 3 community by increasing access to care and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Funded through the Kaiser Permanente Healthy Eating - Active Living (HEAL) Community Health Initiatives grant, the SPA 3 HPG created this website focused on obesity prevention, nutrition and physical activity. LAC/DHS - Public Health, funded through the California Endowment's Healthy Eating Active Communities Initiative (HEAC), has joined this effort. East Valley Community Health Center (EVCHC) acts as the fiscal agent for this project.
Goal of the Website:
The goal of the SPA 3 website is to enhance awareness of and access to community pediatric and adult obesity, nutrition, and physical activity programs and resources in the SPA 3 area.
